Our new winery is situated on land once owned by Red Fullarton. With his son, Ed, he planted the vineyards of Catawba, Niagara and Delaware grapes — all native varieties — surrounding our farmhouse. Ed opened the East Ridge Winery in 1993, specializing in sweeter wines.
In 2003, Ed sold the property to Colm O’Brien of Doolin, County Clare, Ireland. Colm’s construction business has kept him quite occupied (thanks to the second wave of the Celtic Tiger) and he hired his nephew Fergal Griffin and his new bride, Brídgeen Doyle Griffin, to run the winery. After hiring Will Reilly (a former winemaker at Herr Karl’s Weingarten and Italy Hill Cellars), the Griffins have many exciting plans for Loughmare Winery that include planting new vinifera and hybrid vineyards.
We Irish are known for our warm hospitality. We hope you’ll never feel like a stranger here at Loughmare. Sláinte!
